To experience the beauty of Mount Etna, consider taking an Etna tour from Taormina. With a professional guide and 4×4 jeep access, you’ll be able to experience the real Etna up close. You’ll also learn about the volcanic sequences. The journey takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. To top it all off, you’ll get to enjoy the scenery on a panoramic drive through the Etna National Park.
Taormina Takes Approximately Two Hours
You’ll be picked up from your hotel or a meeting point in Catania by an Etna Experience guide. This tour includes a scenic drive through the Etna National Park and a tour of the volcanic mountain, where you can see the Silvestri Crater and see lava eruption sites. From the top of the volcano, you can enjoy spectacular views of the sea, the Etna summit, and the valley of the Bove.
You can also visit Mount Etna without a car. There are buses running from Taormina to Rifugio Sapienza, a guardhouse at the base of the volcano. These buses arrive back in Catania at around 3pm. You can also take a cab to Mount Etna if you wish. The bus back to Taormina takes approximately two hours.
While you’re in Taormina, be sure to check out the amphitheater. The Greeks and Romans both built the amphitheater here, and the ancient theater is a stunning setting. Also, don’t miss the Palazzo Corvaja, a renown medieval mansion with influences of Norman, Gothic, and Arab styles. Inside, you can see the museum of Sicilian arts and crafts.
